Hall of Famer Pat Riley is staying on as president of the Miami Heat, he announced Monday at his season-ending interview.
"I’m 77 years old, I can do more push-ups than you can. I definitely feel an obligation to finish this build," Riley said. "If we are three years into this build, I think we’re in that window of internal improvement."
Among the players from the years team, Riley was asked about the conditioning levels of Kyle Lowry and said he would like to him improve in that area.
"He definitely is going to have to address that and it will be addressed. I definitely think he can be in better shape. We'll address it and try to help him.”
Riley began his tenure with the Heat as head coach and president during the 1995-1996 season. He coached until 2003, stepping away from the court for two years before returning in 2005, eventually winning the 2006 NBA championship.
Riley retired from coaching in 2008, passing the torch to current Heat coach Erik Spoelstra.
